Our September meeting will focus on the Burdoin Fire, which burned through the Gorge in July, 2025. We’ll delve into what more we've learned about the fire's effects, the efficacy of nearby thinning and prescribed fire treatments on fire behavior, and the post-fire recovery of oak woodlands within the burned area. We'll be joined by Garrett Meigs, a forest health scientist with Washington DNR who analyzes the impacts of wildfires in the state, including how these fires help further landscape resilience and wildfire risk reduction objectives.
We'll also discuss how prescribed fire efforts by the PBA and other partners can both build upon, and be mindful of, the fire's impacts to improve overall fire resilience in the region.
